Where we run
We run scheduled freight services between Brisbane, Toowoomba and South West Queensland. These are our own vehicles on our own runs, not freight handed to another carrier at the edge of town.
Wards Transport moves same day, general, express and full load freight between Brisbane, Toowoomba and all areas west to Charleville, including Dalby, Chinchilla and Roma. Alongside that corridor we run scheduled services north into Central Queensland.
Towns serviced across the network include Brisbane, Toowoomba, Warwick, Dalby, Chinchilla, Roma, Charleville, Injune, Taroom, Theodore, Moura, Banana and Biloela. If your destination is not listed, call us on 1300 192 737 — we can often get freight there through an existing run.
Our scheduled services carry parcels, pallets, crates and full loads, plus refrigerated freight where the run supports it. Oversize, over mass and heavy lift consignments are handled as dedicated movements rather than on the scheduled service. See our services for the full range.
A lot of freight sent west from Brisbane changes hands at least once along the way. Ours does not. Wards Transport owns the depots at both ends of these runs and the vehicles in between, which means there is one company accountable for a consignment from pickup to delivery.
It also means the person who answers the phone can usually tell you where your freight actually is, because they can see it or speak to the driver carrying it. Every vehicle in the fleet carries GPS tracking.
Our routes are built around our depot network: Brisbane (Rocklea), Toowoomba, Warwick, Roma, Charleville and Theodore. Each one is staffed by Wards people, and each one can receive and release freight directly.
Full addresses, phone numbers and parcel collection hours for every depot are on our locations page.
Scheduled services are cheaper than dedicated runs because your freight shares a vehicle with everybody else’s. The trade-off is that it leaves when the run leaves. On a daily service that rarely matters; on a twice weekly service, missing a cut-off can cost several days.
If you are working to a deadline, the two things worth knowing are the cut-off time at the origin depot and the typical transit for the leg. Both are listed on each route page. If your freight cannot wait for the next departure, a hot shot movement runs it as a dedicated job instead.
For regular shipping, a credit account makes booking and invoicing simpler than paying consignment by consignment. Rates are also affected by the fuel levy, which rises and falls with the cost of diesel and is published on our site.
Freight on a scheduled service is charged on whichever is greater of the actual weight or the cubic space the consignment occupies, plus the current fuel levy. That is why accurate dimensions matter as much as weight: a light but bulky item still takes up a pallet space, and the price reflects that.
To quote a route we need the pickup and delivery addresses, the number of items, and the weight and dimensions of each. Anything unusual — fragile goods, temperature requirements, items needing a tailgate or forklift at either end — is worth mentioning up front, because it changes the vehicle rather than just the price. Tell us where it is going and when it needs to be there. We will tell you the fastest way to get it there.
