Our services
Temperature-controlled freight leaves no margin for error. We run refrigerated units across our South West Queensland network so chilled and frozen goods arrive in the condition they left in.
Wards Transport operates refrigerated units as part of the fleet, carrying chilled and frozen freight alongside our general services. We develop and execute customised transport solutions so consignments are delivered in temperature, on time and in the best possible condition.
Refrigerated work is unforgiving in a way general freight is not. A pallet of dry goods that arrives a few hours late is an inconvenience; a pallet of chilled product that loses temperature is a write-off. That difference drives how these loads are planned, loaded and monitored.
Our refrigerated customers are typically in hospitality, retail and agribusiness — pubs, clubs, supermarkets, roadhouses, caterers and producers who need cold chain freight into towns the major carriers service infrequently, if at all.
Refrigerated freight moves on the same corridors as our general service: Brisbane and Toowoomba west to Charleville via Dalby, Chinchilla and Roma, and north into Central Queensland. Towns serviced include Warwick, Injune, Taroom, Theodore, Moura, Banana and Biloela.

We run refrigerated units for chilled and frozen work, with GPS tracking fitted across the fleet. For mixed consignments, refrigerated and ambient freight can often travel on the same movement.

Three things make refrigerated freight run smoothly. First, tell us the required temperature when you book rather than assuming chilled and frozen are interchangeable. Second, have the product pre-chilled to temperature before collection — a refrigerated unit is designed to hold temperature, not to pull it down. Third, make sure someone is available to receive it, because a reefer waiting at a locked gate is the most common way cold chain freight goes wrong.

In many cases yes, depending on the consignment and the run. Tell us what you are sending when you call and we will work out the best way to move it.
Running chilled freight between two capital cities is a solved problem. Running it to a town several hundred kilometres past the last major distribution centre is not. Services are less frequent, the legs are longer, and there are fewer options if something goes wrong halfway.
That is the gap this service fills. Because we operate our own depots at both ends of the run, refrigerated freight stays within one company rather than being handed to a regional subcontractor at the edge of the network — which is usually where cold chain visibility disappears.
Cold chain deliveries are the least forgiving of a locked gate. If nobody is there to receive a chilled consignment, the options are poor: the unit can hold temperature for a while, but not indefinitely, and it cannot sit on a footpath.
Give us a contact number for the delivery point, tell us the site hours, and let us know if there is a preferred delivery window. If the consignee would rather collect from one of our depots, that can usually be arranged — but it needs to be agreed before the freight leaves, not after it arrives.
Not every customer has a full reefer trailer to send. Part loads and mixed consignments are common on regional runs, and sharing the unit is what makes cold chain freight affordable to these towns at all.

Refrigerated freight often travels alongside dry goods on the same order. See general and express freight for ambient consignments, and hot shot freight if a temperature-controlled delivery cannot wait for the next scheduled service.
